Why do I have dry skin?
Dry skin can be hereditary. If it’s not…
Dry skin can be caused by a variety of environmental factors such as low humidity, wind, sun exposure, cold temperatures and heat.
Symptoms may begin as an isolated light dry area like hands or legs and spread to encompass the entire body appearing as dry patchy areas, rough or bumpy skin anywhere but especially on the back of arms, or flaking and scaling skin. In general, dry skin may go unnoticed until skin areas are lighter in color, sometimes referred to “ashy” skin. Dry skin may also be a result of side effects of medication such as Chemotherapy and/or Radiation treatments.
How can I prevent dry skin?
Applying an all natural waterbased moisturizer like skin-lasting® helps replenish and retain moisture in the skin.
Remember: “Oils Lubricate…Water Hydrates”. Our unique combination of alphahydroxy acid, humectants, and botanicals keep you hydrated. Using an oil based lotion or a product containing lanolin or shea butter (fat) can leave your skin feeling greasy, and can actually cause dermatitis. They can be good for cuticles. Some additional steps to take in keeping your skin healthy are:
- avoid taking long baths and using hot water
- use a chlorine filter on your shower
- drink plenty of water, keep your entire body hydrated
- avoid caffeine and alcohol which have diuretic properties or remember to drink plenty of water when you do
- Avoid anti-bacterial soap
- By using a soap containing glycerin, goat milk or shea butter, and watch the fragrance
